Easter at the Ranch

We spent Easter this year at Daniel's grandparents' ranch in Caldwell.

It is beautiful there, this time of year.  I love it.

There are cows in the fields every morning, and the house overlooks a pond and lots of trees.  It feels like there is space there.  Well, outside anyways.

Sometimes inside the house feels a little less spacious and a little more... cozy.

Daniel's grandmother, aunt, uncle and a few cousins were there, as well.

We hadn't seen some of them in a while, so it was nice to catch up.  I like that when you're at the ranch, you have to "go into town" to get to the store.

So we don't go out much, when we're at the ranch.

We sit around and talk and cook and eat and take pictures.

We reacquainted ourselves with our adorable niece and nephew on Daniel's side, and that was so nice.

Abby is so cute.

Doesn't she just look squeezable?

She doesn't appreciate being squeezed as much as you'd hope.

And Jonathan's use of the English language is pretty astounding.

Everybody takes turns preparing meals at the ranch.  We eat well there.

Being around other people's kids has begun making me nervous.

I think I have anxiety about introducing a whole person into the world.  What if she makes my life miserable?

I told Daniel it was intimidating to be creating a whole person, and he pointed out that God is creating her, not me.  I took that as an assertion of limited liability, which I don't think was his point.  I'm beginning to meditate on the following:

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
