Last week was spring break and also our first-ever-as-a-family introduction to camping!! It was 38 degrees one of the nights. Not ideal when you have a baby in a pack 'n play, but hey. We made it through!!

The first night we met some friends near Waco and had an awesome time riding their mini-ATV, tractor, motor bike, and boat! We rode the boat to the Baylor Stadium. Charlie was hypnotized by the water in front of us and the wind and loud noise of the boat. The kids loved looking behind us at the white water waves.

Adeline is obsessed with Charlie. She loves him. Loves him.

He warmed up to her throughout our 24 hour camping adventure.

Jeff got a great little teepee going, and the fire that resulted was a team effort.

Lots of eager little helpers around.

We limped home after that first ever night of camping. Charlie could barely keep his eyes open, he was so tired.
Our second camping trip within 5 days was with some different friends--Jed and Becca and their kids Fisher and Ellie. We drove about an hour to Purtis Creek and shared a "walk-up" camp site not too far from the car.
It was really nice. But it was REALLY cold that first night. Even though the kids were triple and quadruple-jammied, they were still cold in their sleeping bags. I ended up going to Walmart the next day for more blankets.
On our second day there, we hiked around the creek, and the kids enjoyed drawing in their nature journals.
Even though it was only 1.6 miles, it felt really long. We were ready for lunch and naps when we got back.
Daniel has told me it will be "a while" before he's ready to go camping again. I'm not gonna lie, it was not super fun having a potty-training toddler and a diaper-wearing toddler and camping in 30 degree weather. But it was, over all, a very successful first family camping trip.
And I really do look forward to future camping trips with our fun little crew.
