I Only Love Oliver

(Me):  Lucy, God loves you sooooo much!  Do you love God?

No.  I only love Oliver

But did you know that God is Love?  Anyone who loves can only love because God loves and is love.

Well, I only love Oliver.

These are the sorts of conversations that characterize our days at home, at the lunch table, on the living room floor, on the couch...

She is making connections all the time.  Trying to figure out her world and our world.

She's started saying, "that would be lovely" -- as in, Lucy, would you like to hold Oliver in your lap in the stroller?

(after thoughtful consideration)... Yeah.  Yes, that would be lovely.

I realized the other day that I've unintentionally transformed Oliver into a real, live doll for Lucy.  It happened like this.  Lucy would say something like, "Oliver, would you like a cupcake when you're bigger?"

And I, in my highest voice, would reply, Yeah, that'd be great!

Or, "Oliver--would you like a check-up?"

And I would reply in my highest voice, Yes, I'd love a check-up after you eat your lunch.

She knows that I'm the one talking for him, but she doesn't seem to mind.  I think her imagination somehow fills in the gaps, and she loves pretending that it's really him talking to her.

Elliot has begun saying, "I'm sorry!!" all the time.  Well, not all the time--but anytime he spills something or accidentally steps on our toes or disobeys.  It's super cute.  I don't recall Lucy ever apologizing like that, so readily.  Not that it's a competition.  Just interesting to see the difference in how they handle correction and accidents.

I don't have anything insightful for this post.  Just a quick glimpse into our daily goings-on.  Thanks for reading.
