Underwater at Terrace

This was our day.

We went to Terrace pool so a photographer friend and I could compare notes on underwater photography.

The kids LOVED playing with the diving rings they borrowed from some other swimmers.

We will have to look into getting some of those.

Swimming seems to have become boring to them, and if I don't bring toys with us, they rapidly lose interest in merely swimming and floating.

But at least they don't yell at each other when they're in the pool.  And that is a BIG plus.

I hope they never get skin cancer -- I really do.

But if the alternative is staying cooped up in the house all day (with all the fighting that entails), I'm willing to take the risk.

I usually put the kids in long-sleeved rash guards, but I forgot Oliver's today.

So he got sun screen slathered all over him.  He still managed to ''get some sun,'' as the euphemism goes.  Hopefully it'll fade quickly.

One of the big kids had put a little sticker on his arm, and I couldn't get it off.  So his arm clearly has ''gotten some sun...'' except in the distribution of that weird sticker.  Ugh.  Oh well.

These are small things, in the grand scheme of things.  They are, however, the things a mom of 3 young kids notices and spends time thinking about.

We spent the rest of the day recovering from our exhausting 2 and 1/2 hour, midday swim.

The kids have recently taken to making ''decorations'' for their stuffed animals.

It means that they get scrapbook paper and meticulously cut it (with their kid scissors) into teeny tiny little triangles and squares, which they leave all over the house.

I will admit that the resulting ''confetti'' does seem festive, but it is also a little crazy-making.

Anyways, that's what they spent the rest of the afternoon doing.

And that, my friends, was our day.

Arboretum and Swimming

Here was our day.  Hopefully this video will play for you.

If not, here are the highlights.  We went to the Arboretum children's garden.  It was hot and humid, so we were grateful for all the water features.  The kids really enjoyed playing on the lily pads.

Then we went back to Mimi and Papa's house for a little swim!  Oliver has gotten so calm about floating.  He doesn't seem to mind it much anymore, which is nice.  And the big kids ADORE swimming, so any time we are swimming is happy time.

And tomorrow is July 4th!  So yay for another family day, and yay for not having to work because the clinic is closed.
