Disaster Area

Have you had one of these rooms in your house?




I know some of you have never had a room that got to this level of cluttered-ness.




But there are plenty of you who have more than one room like this.


 

Maybe it never quite got unpacked to your liking... and therefore was never a room you were proud of to begin with.


 

Or maybe it started out nice enough... and slowly deteriorated.


 

Whatever the case, take heart.  There is hope.




Probably all you need is a good friend's advice on what to get rid of... what to rearrange... what to keep the same... Just keep at it.








There is hope.  It will get better.  Chip away at it, bit by bit.


 

If you only manage to clear off ONE surface this week/month... it's progress.  Just don't lose hope.

More Nursery Organizing...

I thought I was finished organizing the nursery.  Wasn't that naive of me?

I thought, when I found a place for every article of clothing before Lucy was born, that would be the last time.



Wow.  Turns out babies grow out of the small sizes quickly.

 

So after one sister gave me a ton of new hand-me-downs, another one came to help me organize it.

 

Trying clothes on Lucy is so fun.  She is such a doll.

 

I love this outfit.  It's Baby Phat - a gift from one of the showers.

 

Probably not what I would have bought for Lucy on my own, but kind of cute.

 

She looks just like a little Aggie cheerleader... if those existed.  (We have yell leaders at A&M.  Whoop!).

 

I am so proud.  We went from this (above)...

 

to this!  So much better.  Thanks Nickie and Carrie!

The Nursery Closet

This weekend we tackled the closet.  While Daniel was studying yesterday, I went to Lowe's and got all the cuts of wood we needed.  There was a nice, patient employee there who made EIGHT cuts of wood for me so that I wouldn't have to mess with the table saw at home.  Blessed man.  Unfortunately, I told him the longest cut of wood I needed was 64 1/4" when it was actually 66 1/4" and that tiny error resulted in my needing to purchase a whole lot of extra wood.



I can't believe that after all this careful calculating, I made that mistake.  Oh well.  Live and learn, as they say.

Daniel suggested we use the brad nailer to put most of it together, which turned out to be a brilliant, time-saving (and energy-saving) plan.



Caulking turned out to be more time-consuming than I thought.  I think we finished up at about 8:30 PM.



 

 

I am proud of what we accomplished in one day!  We were exhausted by the end.   



Today was paint day.



I didn't participate due to the highly volatile organic compounds in the paint, but Ginnie came over to help Daniel, and they knocked out the first coat.

The closet is now almost finished!  My plan is to purchase some of these Ikea Drona cubbies to put on a couple of the shelves.

Home Improvement with Hand-Me-Downs

I am the happy recipient of a few items my sister got rid of, in a recent-onset frenzy of de-cluttering.

One of said items is a pair of cute white and black shelves. simple, but perfect for the kitchen!


Daniel helped me--or rather let me help him--put them up last weekend.


Wish I had taken a "before" picture, but doesn't it look nice, having all that stuff off of the kitchen island? I think it does. Bravo Daniel, and bravo Nickie!
