This and That and Discipline Stuff

Forgive the lack of posts.  I've been exhausted.  Lucy is fast.  She gets where she wants to go fast.  All these photos were taken within about 4 minutes.  She's all over the place.

Daniel is preparing for his big licensing exam tomorrow, and we're going to spend the night in Ft. Worth tonight so that he'll be right around the corner from his test in the morning.

My parents in law have graciously agreed to babysit Lucy, which means a mini-vacation for us!  Or for me, at least.  Daniel will probably be preoccupied with his exam.

We've been working on little discipline lately.  It's tough.  I just finished 30 minutes of grueling (for both of us) "lie still" reminders so that Lucy would actually fall asleep, instead of standing at the end of the crib babbling/groaning.

We started our discipline with "lie still" on the changing table, and Lucy does really well at that!  It's so nice to know she's not going to launch herself off the changing table or make me chase her around the room for a diaper change.

She doesn't really lie completely still, of course, but it's a reminder for her to stay on her back, and not roll onto her tummy to sit up.

Next on our discipline list was "head down."  My parents did "head down" with us when we were 6-9 months, and it's very helpful as a self-soothing/calming tool.

When we hold Lucy and she's very tired or upset, we tell her, "head down," and she lays her head on our shoulder and begins to calm down.  We can also say it when she's in bed and keeps trying to sit up.

That's most of what we've covered so far, discipline-wise.  This website has been helpful for me in teaching some methods of disciplining little ones.  Most of them were taught to me when I was little, and it's crazy to see Lucy catching on and learning them.

She still seems so teeny tiny to me, but there's definitely a strong will in there.  She is so precious to us.  I'm so curious to see how she'll be as she continues to grow up.

  2. Good luck to Daniel on his exam and you enjoy your "mini-vacation." I know that grandma is looking forward to spending time with Lucy!

My daughter was looking at your blog with me. Her response, "She sounds like the same kind of mom you are and Brooke and I turned out pretty good!" This is from the child who shattered the lids - but now is a math and economics major in college. The is life beyond baby busy-ness!
