Chalk Paint

Have you heard of chalk paint?  I saw it in the store the other day and was intrigued.  Turns out, it is super easy to make!  If you Google it, you will find lots of mom-bloggers writing about corn starch and washable tempura paints.  But that was more complicated than I had in mind.  I heard from someone that chalk paint is basically just ground up chalk in water.  So... that's what we decided to do!

Blend up some chalk with some water until it's the thickness you want.

I had to add a little more water, b/c the chalk soaks it up once it blends.

This is an EASY activity to do with toddlers.  Lucy loved adding the chalk pieces to the blender.

Then just put a paint brush in each cup and let the kids go to town!

I'm always amazed at how little time these sorts of thing really occupy their attention.  But I'd say we got a good 10 minutes of entertainment out of the actual paint, which is pretty good.

Happy summering!
