I wasn't sure I was going to make it. All the kids (and Daniel and me, too) have colds. I think we're on our 4th cold since Charlie was born. The kids' cheeks are chapped from where they wipe the snot. Have you ever tried to wipe 3 kids' noses while also caring for a newborn, making lunch, and supervising craft time? It is hard.

We filled the day with jumping on the trampoline, playing with toys, coloring pictures, reading... ya know--the usual stuff you do when it's 40 degrees outside.

I only had to call Daniel in from his home office once, for moral support when we returned from our 3 mile walk and the youngest two were full out wailing and the second born was amping up about something or other.

After a leftovers lunch, everyone was pretty sane again.
Rest time for the big kids and nap time for the littlest two meant I actually got a few (10? 15?) precious moments of silence.

When Daniel walked in the door at 5:30pm, nobody was crying. The big kids were playing nicely with some Duplo legos they were given for Christmas, and Charlie was in my arms. For as much of a pessimist as I am at heart, I had to admit that the first day on our own was not a disaster. A little terrifying, but not a disaster.
It was actually kind of nice.
Horray for no disasters! SO glad it was even a little nice! You're gonna be a fantastic mom of four!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heidi!!
DeleteCan't believe you went on a walk! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I realized once we started that I should have called you! The walk happened spontaneously. I wasn't even really dressed for it, but oh well.
