Daniel and I were sitting on the couch watching X-Files on my computer. Both of us were mindful of the fact that we had put Lucy down to bed over an hour ago, and although she wasn't yet sleeping, she was at least keeping herself occupied with a few toys in her crib.
Thump. (pause) Thump. (pause) Thump. (pause) Thump.
What is that?
A quick glance at the video monitor revealed Lucy, sitting with her back against the crib, methodically leaning forward and then jolting backward to thump the back of her head on the wood. I wish I had a video.

Daniel says he remembers being that bored in bed as a kid. I can't recall ever thumping the back of my head against anything as a coping mechanism for boredom. But he said he can remember it. So I guess she inherited that particular coping tool from him.
Daniel went and picked her up, did "head down" for a few minutes, and she was asleep.
Kimie,
ReplyDeleteIt could be worse. My youngest (the same one who shattered all of the Pyrex lids) attended to her bedtime boredom by figuring out how to get out of her crib - at the same age Lucy is now. We heard the same kind of thumps, went to her room and discovered her happily playing in the middle of the floor. I put her back in bed. Before I could get out the door, she had flung herself over the rail and was again on the floor. She moved to a toddler bed before she broke something and we were approached by CPS:-) This is the same kid who had to be strapped in her carseat with bungie cords because she could get out of that too!
Oh how funny! Wow she sounds like a little Houdini!
