Did you think I hadn't blogged because I had baby Elliot? Wish that were the case, but no. Elliot is still safe inside.
When my good friend Sarah asked me to come photograph her with Candy, her new horse, I was excited and a little intimidated. How do you photograph a horse?

To find out, I did some internet searching and found this helpful site, which spells out the top 10 pieces of advice for photographing horses.

The number one piece of advice I came away with was to absolutely NOT use flash.
Seems obvious, after the fact, but it was good to have that spelled out.
You can really freak a horse out with flash photography, and particularly with a 9 month pregnant belly slowing me down, I did not want to freak out this particular horse.

Candy is so cute. I'm not really a horse person. I have no idea what kind of horse she is. But I know she's 7 years old and pretty sweet.

Sarah's a horse person and always has been. She's wonderful with horses and teaches lessons when she's not working her usual nursing gig.

Maybe at some point I'll photograph her riding Candy - but the other day we just kept things simple with close-up portraits of the two of them and some full-body shots of Candy.
If I ever do horse portraits again, it would be lovely to have an overcast day.
But beggars can't be choosers - and to get this session done while 9 months pregnant, having acquired childcare for Lucy, and between Sarah's work schedule and mine... well--I think these came out great.
These came out better than great...they're stunning! The two of them look like every little girl's dream of having a beautiful white horse while looking beautiful herself. Really stunning.
