Actually, it would have been a 16 1/2 hour drive, but the kids and I drove south to Sarah's house the night before the big group left Estes. It was SO good to visit and catch up.

We've been friends since 3rd grade, and I enjoy our friendship for many reasons. It's amazing how some things stay the same over a friendship of 20 years... and then some things are so different. It's neat to see someone else grow over such a long time period and to let them see you change and grow, too. It's surreal to see her hold my kids! I'm sure it will be even more that way when Lucy reaches the age we were when we first became friends.

I was just sad that Daniel wasn't there with us, but maybe next year....

My kids are (so far) decidedly not horse people. Elliot was sort of intrigued by the horses, but he wanted to be held. I think their large size made him nervous, and I was already holding Oliver--so we didn't stay out in the barn long.

But I think they enjoyed seeing them, and maybe in the coming years they'll have more interest in riding and touching them. I was grateful they were given the chance to come so close to a real horse! Lucy had been asking about it the whole time we were in Estes Park (thanks to her cousins who both LOVE horses).

We are so glad to be home. We'll spend a couple days recuperating as a family, and then Daniel leaves on business on Monday.

I'm grateful for these two days we get to all be together at home. I'll return to work next weekend, and looking at the calendar, the fall looks almost as busy as the summer was.
Is Sarah boarding or training horses, or are these her own? Glad you guys made it safe home! Hooray for Papa driving it with you!
ReplyDeleteThose are her own! Isn't that nice?
