Inspired by this blogger, I'll be photographing Lucy each month in her green outfit until her second birthday.

Can you believe she's already a year? I can. I've had so many people remind me to cherish every moment that I believe I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 12 months and have taken "mental snapshots" (as well as actual snapshots) as often as humanly possible. In fact, this friendly, prolific advice has caused me to look around neurotically every few weeks and think, did I miss it? Did she grow up? Is she already three? Are Daniel and I empty-nesters now?? No... no, she's still just a baby -- I didn't miss it.

But it is remarkable how much she's changed in the past 3 months. We love seeing her personality develop. There is still so much about her that's a mystery.

I took her to a playdate the other day with 3 other babies in a house with lots of fun toys, and she had a blast. It was so fun to watch her squeal and laugh and play. It was a new experience for me - to see her have such fun with other babies.

I believe she may be beginning to understand some of the Spanish I've been speaking to her. Yesterday she gave a big squeeze to her stuffed animal after I asked her about giving it an "abrazo" (hug). Hard to say for sure how much she's comprehending, but it's probably more than I think.
I realized today that she's been saying "uh oh" for a while - I just didn't recognize it as such. She actually just hums it, in that sing-song way that everybody with a baby says, "uh-ohhhh."

I asked Daniel what other new things she's doing this month, and he volunteered, "she walks like a drunkard." Which is true. She's getting more steady though, every day. She tries a few more steps everyday.

When she does something she knows she's not allowed to do, she looks at me and shakes her head no. It's so cute.

Happy birthday, Lucy!! Lord willing, the first of many more to come.
