This will be my last monthly photo for Lucy. It is bitter-sweet, writing this. I have really enjoyed jotting down her little milestones over the past 2 years. It is truly amazing how much she has developed into a little person in just 24 months.

She is so verbal now. She repeats almost everything she hears -- sometimes after only hearing it once or twice. We are now officially to the careful-what-you-say part of parenting. Here is a partial dictionary that Daniel's Dad jotted down while they were babysitting the kids a couple weekends ago, and then I added to it:
Bean = bunny, especially my play bunny.
Pepper = diaper
HAYde = head
WOW-duh = loud (a word of wide application that may apply to dogs, TV, or really anything).
Parakeet = potty/treat - I want to use the potty and get a treat
Bowow (or pawow) = pacifier - (etimology unclear.)
Onion = siren. (As in, I hear a distant siren that you probably don't notice.)
AirPain = airplane (As in,I hear a distant airplane that you probably don't notice.)
Choon = phone
Eh-bands = ambulance (as in, the thing that makes the "onion" sound)
Wah-pup = water cup
Fwemming = Swimming!
Mah-leen = smiling (as in, Elliot's smiling!!!)
Kicking = cooking (as in, Mommy's cooking! Probably eggs.)
She is such a good imitator these days! She especially loves to imitate Jack and her friend Ellie. Ellie gets to call Daniel just that--"Daniel." So now Lucy calls him that, too! At least once or twice a day she can be heard calling his name. "Dada! Dada! Daniel! Daniel-Dada! Dada-Daniel!" He thinks it's kind of cute but also continues to correct her each time. Lucy, it's Dada.
She asks for her favorite shows throughout the day. Those would be Baby Noah, Baby Signs, and Elmo. She naps once/day for about 2 hours. She also has a little rest time most mornings.

She's not quite there with the potty training. She'll have a couple great days and then absolutely refuse to do any business on a potty which could more easily be done in a diaper. I don't understand it, but I know not to push it. So we'll just wait some more. The cloth diapers are burdensome, but I have help (thank you to Ginnie and Daniel. and also my mom. and also Daniel's mom. lots of help).
One of her favorite activities is "hands" -- which means playing with water in the sink (as if she were washing her hands) for 30 minutes at a time. The other day she fell off the chair she was standing on, and I heard the loudest smack of head on tile to date. It was a nauseating half second for me, but after a good cry, she was over it. No concussive symptoms - good deal.

Her favorite book is Dora The Explorer: Big Sister Dora. She can fill in several of the words if I leave a space while telling the story. It's so cute.
Highlight of my day! I have been working on her the past week or so to answer back, "TWO!" when asked, "Lucy, how old are you?" But today, in the car, I told her (in Spanish) that we were only going to speak in Spanish for the rest of the car ride. I was narrating whatever I could see outside the car in Spanish, and then I stopped and randomly asked, "Lucy, cuantos anos tienes?" and she answered back, "DOS!" Hah!! No prompting at all. This gives me hope that perhaps she is partially capable of thinking in Spanish. I think we are finally getting somewhere with this.

I could go on and on. She is the most fun little kid I've ever had the pleasure of knowing--and I know her well. I am glad that I don't know her nearly as well as God does--and that even with her little sinful core, God loves her much more than I do. She is a blessing and a treasure, and Daniel and I delight in her every single day.
Absolutely made me cry a little; what a beautiful love letter to a precious little girl.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heidi :)
Delete(I had some trouble reading that bit in the middle of the vocab list, between pacifier and onion... are those individual words she says clearly?)
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah--weird! I fixed it now :). Thanks!
