Well. Today was hard. It held a very promising start. Nine hours of contiguous sleep and a sweet smile to boot. Awesome.
We got a late start in the morning but enjoyed a nice breakfast (Carrie was at work, but Ben, Daniel, and I ate the yummy casserole she made for us).
Then we headed out for Scarborough. It was going to be a 4 hour road trip. We had planned to stop at a lavender field along the way and get to Scarborough in the early afternoon.

God had other plans, apparently.
The car broke down about an hour from the lavender field. So we tried to arrange for a tow truck and waited.
Some very helpful traffic officers stopped by to give us a tow to a safer part of the highway ("carriageway").

They completely stopped both lanes of the highway and towed us about 1/2 mile down the road to a "lay-by," which is a mini-parking lot on the side of the highway. It's kind of like England's solution to the no-shoulders-on-the-roads problem. Anyways, the traffic officers were very nice and friendly.

The tow truck didn't materialize for hours. We waited. and waited. and waited. Five hours. We were so thirsty we drank the melted ice from the cooler.
Not to be overly dramatic -- we weren't dying.

But it was not a fun way to spend the day, especially when I was so looking forward to the lavender field and exploring Scarborough and dinner.

None of those things ended up happening.

But tomorrow we'll get an earlier start, eat breakfast, and see the Scarborough castle before we leave town for Scotland. It'll be another 4 hours or so.

Not sure exactly what God was accomplishing today... clearly His agenda and mine do not always (read: usually) align.
Still--we were grateful for the cool weather and cloudy sky today. If you had to spend 5 hours on the side of the road, today had the kind of weather for it.
