England Trip -- Day 6

We started the day at our lovely B&B hopeful for a much better day than yesterday.

This was the view from our room.  Scarborough was lovely.  It's a beach town on a hill with a castle -- an awesome combination.

We ate a traditional English breakfast -- bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, and toast.

And, of course, yummy black tea.  Remember when I was obsessed with making the perfect cup of English Breakfast tea a few years ago?

They nail it every. single. time.  I love the tea here!

Carrie met up with us last night after taking the train from Bury (she had to work).

She spent the whole morning arranging a rental car for us (since Ben was still waiting with their car that broke down).

So Daniel and I took a walk around Scarborough, starting with a stroll up the hill toward the castle.  The view of the beach and the town got better and better as we got closer to the castle.

The wind was crisp, and it was such a clear, sunny day.  Just beautiful.

We got to the top, where Carrie met up with us

The castle was SO cool!  It is really old -- built in the 12th century.  The audio tour was really nicely done.

You could key in the number on certain plaques to hear commentary or stories on specific aspects of the castle and its history.

This was the main part of the castle, where the royal family would have lived.

And this was the well they used for water.  We dropped a small rock down it and timed the fall.

We heard it land after 4 seconds, which means this well is roughly 250 feet deep!!  Crazy.

Daniel and I wandered through the streets in search of lunch, which we found at a fish and chips restaurant that overlooked the sea.

They serve the fried fish and fries alongside "mushy peas".  It was interesting.  Good.  Very fried.  And of course we got more perfect tea!  Yum.  Can't get enough.

After lunch, we met back up with Carrie, who had acquired a car for us by that point.  Poor Ben gave up waiting on the car (which is still in the shop) and got on a train to meet up with us in Scotland.

Carrie, Daniel, Oliver, and I piled into our rental car and drove further north to Scotland!  We made it to Edinborough and checked into our B&B, The Adria House.  Isn't it regal looking?  Our room was amazing -- 15 foot ceilings with ornate, molded plaster and beautiful wallpaper and furnishings.  This is a "grade 1" historical establishment, so you cannot use anything modern  to upgrade the interior or exterior.

The garden in the back is just lovely!  We weren't allowed to go out there, because there are no guard rails or anything to keep visitors safe.  But we really enjoyed the view of it.

Dinner.  Changing Oliver in the restroom proved to be a challenge.  Thank goodness I'm relatively tall!  This changing table was about shoulder height.  But, I am grateful.  If not for this changing table, I think changing his very full, messy diaper would have been impossible.

We ate a really nice, late dinner and headed to bed before I could finish this blog post.   Tomorrow, Inverness!
