We Survived Our First Flight With Kids!

Kudos to Daniel for being an awesome partner in getting the kids packed, through security, and safely onto the plane.  What a great dad he is!

The kids did really well, over all.  Especially considering the circumstances (namely, Lucy's ear infections).

God smiled down on us and gave us an entire row of seats to ourselves--one whole row on both sides of the plane.  It was amazing.  Elliot and I started the flight on the left side of the plane, and Daniel and Lucy on the right, and then we swapped once or twice before we landed.

Elliot started out the flight beautifully.  He cried for a few minutes and bam--he was out.

Lucy was more difficult.  She was sad for a lot of the flight, I think partly because of her ears.  But there was a boy sitting behind her who was the same age, and she enjoyed looking back at him from time to time.

By the time we were an hour out, Elliot had woken up and Lucy was fluctuating between being very sad and being hilariously punchy.

I'm not sure she ever really grasped the concept that we were in an airplane--those things she keeps pointing at excitedly and repeating the name of ("airplane!  AIRPLANE!  AIRPLANE!!!").  But given that she has a pretty real understanding of gravity and its consequences... and no understanding of the complex physical laws that enable a plane to take flight... maybe it's good that she didn't fully grasp where we were.

PS - A HUGE thanks to my mom, who not only spent the night and took care of Elliot so we could get 6 hours of continuous sleep but also helped us get out the door this morning and took us to the airport!
