Sleep Deprived and Disoriented

What day is it?  Sunday?  Monday?  Who can tell anymore.  I know it's Christmas Eve.

Daniel and I are so sleep deprived.  Little stinker is up every 2 1/2 hours during the night.  Nursing has become a nightmare.  I think he's still in a lot of pain from his surgery this past week.

I have a picture of what the under side of his tongue looks like, but honestly I think it would be in poor taste to post it on the blog.  It looks terrible.

We are back to dosing him with Tylenol and Motrin to try to get him to eat a little better and not be so fussy.  Poor little guy.  And poor us.  Oof.

We celebrated Christmas with Daniel's folks the other day.  Lucy really got into taking the tissue paper out of the bags.

And she's a huge fan of all the toys they got her for her new sandbox!

One of Lucy's most recent, favorite activities is climbing up the handle of her wagon.  She falls off every once in a while, but mostly she's pretty good at walking up it.  She's amazing at climbing onto chairs these days.

Her upper body strength in proportion to her size, while normal for her age, is amazing when compared to a normal adult's.

Another most beloved activity is putting on shoes.

And hats and any other article of clothing.

But particularly for the past week she has spent countless minutes (or hours?  I'm in a fog... I don't know) trying to put her shoes and socks on.  She's gotten quite successful with the socks but still has a ways to go with the more difficult shoes.

She also loves pretending to talk on the phone.  We go back and forth in Spanish, practicing saying, "hola" to some unknown person on the phone, and then practicing saying, "adios" at the end.

She loves this game.

Today Elliot is exactly 1 month old.  I'll shoot his very first monthly photo this afternoon - so fun!

My friend Jennifer, in from out of town
A friend pointed out the other day how sweet it is to have a newborn at Christmas time - because it helps you really think about what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus.  To me, it was a thought-provoking statement.  He (Jesus) came into this world with such humility.  It astounds me to realize that as a squirming, tiny newborn Jesus was wrapped in cloth and put in a horse trough, probably padded with straw.

And my newborn gets the softest of fleece sleepers and swaddlers and onesies - not to mention at least a dozen super soft blankets.  And that other newborn - in the straw-padded horse trough - he is God.  It's not fair.

Actually, nothing about what Jesus did is fair -- and although there is part of me that would rather earn anything He gives me, another part realizes how hopeless that prospect is and is grateful to accept His grace--and for my own sake and for yours, I'm glad it's not fair.
